![]() Hundreds of hours of music (all the CDs that I ripped into iTunes years ago).Thousands of photographs of our family.Insurance that if, by chance, your computer and its external backup drive are both destroyed or stolen, you still have an up-to-date copy of your most important files saved somewhere else. If you boil it down, an off-site “cloud” backup of all the files on your computer is nothing more than insurance. To get started, you simply download the Backblaze app from their website, create an account, and then let the app do its thing. For our review, we tested, used, and researched the most popular services, and we recommend Backblaze. The best way to ensure that this will not happen again within your backup will be to uninstall and reinstall the program and transfer your license by deleting the old backup with bad log files.Backing up your files to an off-site cloud server is an easy, affordable, and safe way to make sure that your most important files are safe. Maybe the OOM situation was screwing up the backup process.Īfter consulting with our engineering team, it seems that something went wrong within the Backblaze program logs which caused files that were not uploaded in their entirety to be listed as being stored on our servers and available for restore. I decided to reset my Windows installation as well because I've had sporadic memory leak issues where my PC would run out of memory, usually after leaving Chrome running overnight. I had to reupload everything.Įdit 3: I was advised to reinstall Backblaze, delete my backup and reupload. I don't remember if it was detected as unplugged or some other issue. ![]() It's possible all the missing files were not backed up or were backed up corrupted, which is very alarming.Įdit 2: One other thing that may be a factor is I recall this drive dropping out of my backup without warning sometime in November. So it's not the hard drive restore going wrong, but any kind of restore. I tried a different missing file and it's also failing incomplete. When I try to download the missing file by itself in Chrome, it will get to 80 MB out of 109, fail and then retrying, until it stops with File incomplete error. The file missing from the hard drive was also missing from the zipped restore file. That's 250,585 MB of files missing.Įdit: I just downloaded a restore of a single folder that had a missing file. Could that have caused the problem?įrom what I recall I deselected, backblaze showed 7,128,431.42 MB (apparently in mebibytes) selected and the drive has 6,877,846 mebibytes in the restore folder. It let me restore with over 7,100,000 MB even though the limit says 7,000,000 MB. It'll take a long time manually going folder by folder comparing disk contents and the backblaze restore page since there doesn't appear to be something like an sfv file to run an automated verification with. The pictures are there but 2 out of 5 videos are not. I had the time set as from beginning of backup to the current date.įor example, I have a folder with pictures and videos. Looking at the contents it's missing some files, mostly large ones, seemingly spread out across the drive at random. I ordered an 8 TB USB hard drive for a restore after a drive failure.
